Two kinds of products are available in Cdiscount: classical and variant product.

Classic product : these products are sold in a single statement (no need to choose any color or size)
Example : video games, GPS, books, etc.

Variant product : these products have size and/or colors variations

Example : clothes, shoes, etc.

III. How to create a new product


Cdiscount has already more than 20 million products referenced in it platform. Thus it is quite likely that the product you want to sell already exists in our systems.



Even so, it is also possible that you want to sell a specific product, unknown to our systems.
In this case you must request a product creation. This request will be analyzed by our services, which will take charge of creating the product.



Depending on the volume of product you are soliciting to create, you can use 3 different ways :



    • Unique manual creation, by using the Seller interface. Choose this method if you rarely create new products.


      • Bulk request products creation, by using the Excel file format available in the Seller interface. This is the best way to create a list of new product manually


        • Bulk request products creation, by using the API. To be able to request a creation of new products by using your system, you can use the SubmitProductPackage method.

        Important : Your products package in zip format must contains between 10K or 20K products.

         

        IV. How to modify my products


        You have the option to modify the fields of a product sheet : the wordings, descriptions, brand, visuals and category.
        Important, modification is not automatic : even if you are working by API or with a service provider, simply updating your feed does not apply the modification to Cdiscount.

        You still have to follow this process :

        • I contact the product integration department, which supplies me with the product improvement file
        • I must provide one of these items of information
        • I complete the columns that I wish to change
        • I send my completed file to product integration as a request.


         

        V. Products banned from sale


        Cdiscount brings a high attention to the brand products covered by specific marketing rules. It is for this reason that some products are not authorized for sale on the marketplace.

        However, if you have specific agreements with a brand, please to send us a copy of the specific terms of the agreement, by using the form available through the “Help” menu of your Cdiscount Marketplace interface. Our legal services will analyse your request in order to give you the right to propose your offers.

         

        VI. Things to remember


        Images are one of the most important factors for your visibility. They must be supplied in Jpg, .Gif or .Png format, dimensions: 500 x 500 pixels minimum/3000 x 3000 pixels maximum, and have a maximum file size of 5 MB (5120 KB). In order to be able to zoom in on the product sheet correctly, we recommend using images of at least 500 x 500 pixels.
        Your product must be shown facing forward and fill the entire image without pixelation. The image must not include offer data, text, illustrations, embedded images, logos, drawings, watermarks, etc. (including product features), or outbound links, even secure ones. For ready-to-wear and erotic products, the intimate regions must not be visible, and the poses of the mannequins must be neither suggestive nor provocative. For furniture, a display bonus will be given to visuals on a white background.

        The product title must be written in French and contain the main product information for the purchaser. As a minimum, the title must contain: [Brand] – [Product type] – [Description keywords] – [Model] (for technical products) – [Gender] (if applicable).

        The product description. Put yourself in the purchaser’s position and give them the information they need to make a purchase. Warning, only product-specific information which does not change from one vendor to another.

        For improved listing, retrieve your products’ original EANS (from the manufacturers). This is particularly important for the categories of computing, high-tech, phones, electrical appliances and video games.

        For products with Size (fashion and textile), all variations must be created under the same family SKU.

        VII. 2. Available instructions


        Visuals are essential for e-commerce sales.
        A high-quality professional visual is one of the most important factors for the customer.

        For quality visuals, we recommend following these instructions :

        • Format: .Jpg, .Gif or .Png. Dimensions: 500 x 500 pixels minimum/3000 x 3000 pixels maximum. Maximum weight: 5 MB (5120 KB). In order to be able to zoom in on the product sheet correctly, we recommend using images of at least 500 x 500 pixels
        • Product visible, presented facing forward, not pixelated and filling the image
        • Product presented alone, facing forward on a white background
        • No multiple views
        • Intimate regions not visible, no suggestive and/or provocative poses
        • No offer data, text, illustrations, embedded images, logos, drawings, watermarks, etc. (including product features)

        VIII. Element definitions

        VIII. 1. Vendor reference / @Seller_product_id


        The vendor reference is your product ID. It can also be named SKU, Id_unique or Seller_product_id and must not exceed 50 characters. You can put what you like here. Accents, the “|” vertical pipe bar and hidden symbols are not allowed.
        The following rule applies : one product = one EAN = one vendor reference.
        Two products cannot have the same reference.

        VIII. 2. EAN / GENCOD / Barcode


        The EAN, GENCOD or barcode is the product’s unique 13-digit ID. We ask you to please supply the products’ original EAN numbers, i.e. those supplied by the manufacturer.
        Each product has its own EAN. Duplicates are not accepted. (Exception: Assortments where the EAN covers several products).

        If your product has no EAN and the EAN is compulsory for your product category :

        • We invite you to contact the body that creates them, GS1, in order to generate one
        • We can generate EANs for you (in some categories). In exchange, you agree to use these EANs only on the Cdiscount Market Place.

        Providing an EAN enables your product :

        • To have increased visibility on the site via the search engine
        • To be matched with our external tools (tools for completing the product sheets, in particular for technical goods).

        VIII. 3. Product brand / @BrandName


        The brand offers consumers an essential reference point. It represents the image of the product.

        Care must be taken when entering the brand :

        • It is not your shop name or the name of the product model, but a brand of its own.
        • To ensure that your brands are integrated and visible on the product sheet, they must be registered with the INPI (French National Institute of Industrial Property).
        • The licences must be entered as specific “Licence” data and not product brands. Example: Brand: Disney – Licence: Mickey Mouse.
        • If the tag has been cut off the product or is missing, it cannot be sold under the original name and any mention of the brand on the product sheet is prohibited.

        VIII. 4. Product categorization


        The product category is used to apply many management rules to your products, in particular :

        • Navigation using the internal search engine and around the site
        • The tools that enable your products to be listed on external search engines (SEO)
        • The tools to manage your activity

        Good categorization lets you :

        • Increase the product’s visibility on the site
        • Increase visibility on the internal and external search engines
        • Set the correct commission rates
        • Have the option to benefit from special creation rights

        Poor categorization leads to :

        • Your catalog taking longer to process, as it has to be redone manually
        • Poor visibility of your products on the site
        • Poor listing

        In order to make your products easier to categorise, we invite you to create keyword filters in the category tree file :

        • If you specialise in a field, we advise you to first apply a Level 1 filter, in order to concentrate only on the categories that may apply to you.
        • To identify the category, you can also use the “search” function (Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl key + F), by searching for the typology of the product concerned. Several results may be possible for a given wording, so please check all possibilities by clicking the “Find all” button in the open pop-up, to ensure that you select the most relevant category for the product. Please take care not to select a cell range before clicking “Find all”, and instead make sure you are in a single cell.

        Note : The value of the field AllowProductIntegration is always at false by default. Nevertheless, you can ask for a creation of products.

        VIII. 5. The product title or wording


        The title is the element that allows the product to be identified. It must be constructed professionally in order to give the buyer confidence.

        VIII. 5.1. Short wording


        The short basket label is the one that will appear in the shopping cart and on the customer’s bill. It is limited to 30 characters.

        • It must contain, as far as possible (and the limit of the number of characters allowed) the exact references of the product, and imperatively the mark. Exemple : KODAK Easyshare M530 Orange, salon MANO 6P résine tressée, BAMBISOL Combiné Trio Illico Bora.
        • Texts in French/No rough translations from a foreign language
        • Correct spelling
        • No abbreviations or special characters (slash, anti-slash, etc.), symbols
        • No URL or HTML in the wordings
        • No offer data

        VIII. 5.2. Long wording


        The long label is the one that appears on the product sheet. Also called “Title” is the element allowing to identify the product on the site. It must be constructed in a professional manner in order to put the buyer in confidence. It is limited to 132 characters.

        • Texts in French/No rough translations from a foreign language
        • Correct spelling
        • Wording must state the product type
        • Minimum criteria to enter: [Brand] – [Product type] – [Description keywords] – [Model] (for technical products) – [Gender] (if applicable)

        • No abbreviations or special characters (slash, anti-slash, etc.), symbols
        • No URL or HTML in the wordings
        • Do not put in too many keywords or parasite words (i.e.: Evening, wedding, christening, bar mitzvah, communion dress)
        • No offer data

        VIII. 6. Product description


        The product description is essential because it allows you to provide the information that customers need before buying the product. It must be complete, precise and describe the characteristics of the product.

        VIII. 6.1. Short description


        Quick description of the product listing its main characteristics. It is limited to 420 characters.

        • Texts in French/No rough translations from a foreign language
        • Correct spelling
        • Offer data (prices, delivery, warranty, etc.) are not allowed on the sheets; they must be provided in your offer file
        • Never enter marks that do not correspond to the product sold (eg as a Nespresso for a non-branded or non-branded coffee maker)
        • No HTML code

        VIII. 6.2. Marketing description


        It allows you to add images, videos and HTML. It is limited to 5000 characters.

        • Texts in French/No rough translations from a foreign language
        • Construct your sentences with subjects, verbs and complements, avoid telegraphic style
        • Correct spelling
        • Add HTML code for a quality description (URL links must be https://). For more information on this subject, please contact the product integration department.
        • Do not provide excessive marketing commentary
        • Offer data (prices, delivery, warranty, etc.) are not allowed on the sheets; they must be provided in your offer file
        • Never enter marks that do not correspond to the product sold (eg as a Nespresso for a non-branded or non-branded coffee maker)
        • No HREF (outgoing link)

        The more you provide clear, well-structured information in your description, the more you will match with our internal completion tools enabling us to complete your product sheet with the specific data.

        VIII. 7. Facets/specific data


        The specific data or facets are additional information about a product. They are used to store products on site and find them using the search filters, which customers use very frequently.

        For some product categories, the specific data must be completed:

        • The gender and age are required for mandatory properties for the method GetModelList for the ADULT – EROTIC, LUGGAGE, JEWELLERY – GLASSES – WATCHES, SHOES – ACCESSORIES, SPORT, CLOTHING – LINGERIE categories.
        • The main sport for SPORT.
        • Warnings for GAMES – TOYS, CREATIVE HOBBIES – FINE ARTS – STATIONERY, WINE – ALCOHOL – LIQUIDS and any category requiring a warning and/or legal notice.

        If you wish to add additional specific data about your products, please make a request to product integration.

        The more you provide clear, well-structured information in your description, the more you will match with our internal completion tools enabling us to complete your product sheet with the specific data.

        IX. Variant management

        IX. 1. Definition


        Some product categories are managed as variants, i.e. in a range of sizes: textiles, shoes, sport and rings.

        In order to create products as variants, we need several elements:

        • Family SKU (@SellerProductFamily) : This is a reference for grouping all the products in a given family together under the same product sheet. There must be a single one for all products in the same family.
        • Size (@Size) : a size conversion chart, category by category for, will be available soon
        • Marketing colour (@SellerProductColorName) : You must state the real product colour. Colours such as “Desert” or “#1” are not allowed.

        IX. 2. A few rules

        • One reference and one EAN per product
        • One single wording/description per family
        • No sizes and/or colours in the wordings

        • A family must not have any duplicates between the family SKUs, sizes and colours. One single product per family, one row per variation.

        • Do not enter the father [parent] products (we only integrate son [child] products)

        X. Prohibited products and terms


        You must absolutely refrain from offering products prohibited by law and / or our Marketplace:

        • (A) articles whose publicity, offer or marketing affects intellectual property rights (copyright and neighboring rights), industrial property rights (trademarks, patents, designs) and any other Applicable law (in particular, the right to the image, the right to respect for private life, the right to personality);
        • (B) discriminatory or incitement to violence (including Class A to D weapons as defined by law, toys and artificial weapons, etc.), or racial, religious or ethnic hatred;
        • (C) live animals;
        • (D) stolen property;
        • (E) advertising, including in the form of links;
        • (F) medicines, drugs of all kinds, articles capable of inciting the use of narcotic drugs or substances presented as having the effects of substances or plants classified as narcotic drugs;
        • (G) articles likely to be hazardous to health, safety or the environment;
        • (H) other items that can not be legally offered or marketed or whose offer or sale is likely to affect public order, morals or rights of other Sellers or third parties.

        The aim of this guide is to give you advice on listing your products as effectively as possible, in order to help them sell better.
